but the input-switching button itself does not actually work unless both computers are turned on. I also have a dedicated power cable (which is micro-usb for some reason) running to the switch and the light is clearly on.
So if I turn off one computer and try to use the other the next morning without turning them BOTH on first, I am unable to switch the inputs. Unfortunately, this switch also has a major problem - it expects both computers to be powered on or it will not switch inputs.
Being USB-C native was also a big help, since other (less expensive) switches have not worked properly with my MacBook. The external switch button was ideal because it allowed me to use nano-tape to mount the switch and button under the desk (with the button positioned right next to the desk controls).
